It's all About the Spin

Some would say I am a Bad Mommy for putting my kid to bed at 6:45 tonight, even though she probably was not all that tired.

I say that I am a Good Mommy because I understand my limits, and the ratio of toddler-to-sanity was skewing in a scary way.

What do you spin in order to get away with?

Are you kidding? 6:45? AWESOME. We put El Guille to bed last week at 6:30. Sorry, if you're crazy, you're done. End of story. ¡ColorĂn Colorado!

El Guille was in bed by 7:05 tonight, right after he tied up his brother with curling ribbon.

As for spin...it's OK if I leave them in their room crying for a little bit longer because then the kitchen floor will be mopped.

We're you saying it's a BAD thing to put your kid to bed early? My kiddo goes to bed between 6:30 and 7. Period. I don't see any spin there.

Not crazy, no spin, definitely not a bad mommy. My kids (not toddlers) are in bed by 8:00 normally, but 6:45 - 7:00 is an oft visited bedtime as well.

Understanding your limits is definitely good mommy material.

What do I spin? My lack of a schedule/routine is "flexibility," and I'm quite sure I've convinced myself it breeds independence and creativity.

We raised six children and always put them to bed at 7:00. That was Miller Time. As they got older we told them they didn' need to go to sleep but they needed to be in their rooms with quiet time so we could relax to ourselves for a bit.

Right now Kalea is wandering in and out of her room...it's nap time. Meaning...i get my time-out. As long as she doesn't bug her sister... she can wander.

We usually try to put them to bed by 6:30-7pm - if that means they keep working us until it gets later or... go to sleep... even better. There's a time to be a Mommy and time to be a Woman/Wife... what have you... I like to think the all hours mommy shop closes around 8pm... emergency visits are open...but ya know... you need down time. No guilt required.

You early-to-bed moms are brilliant! I wish I'd been that smart early on (you know, when I had a little more control). Although now that I think about it, my husband was working two jobs so much of our early years (until about five years ago, truthfully) I would have been very lonely. I guess I won't beat myself up too much about it.

hey you patti perfects out there, is anyone willing to stick their neck out and tell me who gets up every morning, fixes eggs for husband and kids, bakes a cake for the neighbor, uses the internet to blog missionary messages to the heathen, and starts their regular day at 6am

My kids always go to bed at 6:30.

Now when you put them to bed at FOUR O'CLOCK because it's that or completely lose your crackers, THAT requires a bit of guilt tap dancing.

But they can't tell time yet, so it's all good.

I would agee with you 100% A mom especially has to know her limits. I just recently did that with mine. It happens on occasion. My oldest (12)thought I was the meanest mom ever. He said "noone puts their kids to bed this early!" I shut my mouth and chose not to argue, going through my head was the countless numbers of women I could call and prove differently.

I am so glad to know that I am ok! We have so many friends who have midnight kids. So I thought 7:30 or 8 was pushing it. Thanks to the mommies, she now is in bed by 6:30 or 7, and I have never been happier!

And who is this putz guy? Anyone know?

AMEN on all support for early bedtimes! I'm all for an early bedtime for ANY reason. ESPECIALLY the sanity of Mom! Besides, more sleep is GOOD for kiddos-- no guilt necessary!
