Proud

I don't know if this has anything to do with my mothering-nor do I want the credit if it does, but....
I got a phone call today from a dad. He was RSVP-ing for his son, whom he said would be attending my son's big 16th birthday bash.
Frankly, I thought it was kinda weird. The dad called?
Tonight, when Oldest got home, I told him the kid was coming. He said, "Oh, cool!"
I asked him who he was and wasn't it kinda weird his dad called?
He said (and here's the proud part) "He's a kid on my football team. He's quite a large kid. Nobody talks to him. He doesn't have many friends. But, I think he's cool....so I wanted to invite him."
Just when he's about on my last nerve......he goes and melts my heart into a pool of mush.

Dang. What a guy. I'm proud too, and I had nothing to do with it!

Good for Oldest, doing his own thing (the right thing) despite the crushing social pressure to be cool at age 16. And good job, b., for teaching that.

Proof that you are, indeed, a good mommy! What a son you have there! I'd be just as proud.

Sorry, I am a random blog stalker but I wanted to put in my two cents. Your son sounds like a keeper/winner/sweetheart all of the above, hearing about kids like that brings hope back into this crazy world :)

I work full time and my hubby stays with the kids,
(which I hate btw), but my husband has rsvp'd for partys and when my son had his party my husband put his own name and phone # on the invitation. Even I thought that was a little weird. NO ONE rsvp'd. Big surprise. Thankfully some kids did come, I was there too. I took the day off work.

My two biggest fears for when my boys start school is that they will either be bullied or be THE bullies. Not that it can only be either way, but it gives me hope. What a good kid!

I say to take the credit when at all possible. And, of course, blame it on something else when it is not in our favor to do so ;)! But... you are right about sharing the credit with him. I think it is a sign of great character to go outside the group and include others. And, it is hard to do at that age... or, at any age, right?

Kuddos to your kid! And to you!
