Go Ahead, Admit It

Sometimes you have a favorite child.

I always swore I did not, until I heard this.

"They" did a study. The parents in the study all said they did not have a favorite child. The children all said yes their parents did have a favorite child, and it was so and so. And most of the time so and so knew they were the favorite.

It really made me stop and think. My kids would tell you I do.

I was talking to Queen Scarlett the other day and she asked if the baby was my favorite. Right then he wasn't. However, later on he was.

I love them both, so much, but sometimes I don't like one or the other--and sometimes I don't like either and want to shut myself in the backroom.

I'll put it like this. You love them all equally and unequivocally. But there are some you can live with better than others.

You know the frustrating thing? I tried sooooo hard not to have favorites (because I have suffered my whole life not being the favorite) and I learned it just doesn't matter. There will be a child who will compare and measure everything and completely unreasonably at that, so it won't even matter how hard you try to be fair. It will never be enough.

At my house "the favorite" is the one who is the easiest to get along with. Now I ask you, what's so wrong with that?

They're ALL my favorites. *sighs and rainbows and birdies*

Seriously, I find that if I'm not enjoying my kids, I should spend more time with them, and when I do, they become my favorite again. (Probably not the answer people were looking for here, but it's the truth.) Makes me wonder...since as a child I was SOOOO not the favorite, I wonder if I would have been the favorite if I had been gotten to be known more as a person, as myself? Just a thought.

I have a favorite, but I guess It's not really fair since she is my only.

And I am the favorite. But I don't think it is because I am more myself - it's because I adapt.

I do. Usually it is the one that isn't talking yet... I have said a few times that N is my favorite. I felt bad, like I was cursing it...and then I did....

Cw - that is how I am...whoever is easiest to get a long with.. but then ~J's comment is true too... it's all about time. I've found that with my oldest...she needs extra attention...it's hard having a little one who is so demanding with my time...but I've learned I have to step away from the computer and really LOOK at her.

I wasn't a favorite... ever. I should know better. ;-)

My kids like to take turns with who's the cooperative one, who's the back-talker, etc. So my favorite child alternates weekly. I hope it's pretty even...
